Welcome to Elves Un-Structured, the most unstructured RPG ever attempted in the known history of this website (hence the name). The material below is suitable for partially insane people only, and/or those with too much time on their hands (or alternately, those with no time but who like to waste the time they don't have on the internet). What the hell?

You're probably wondering how this game works. Well, it's quite simple really. There is no true plot. There are only vague, disjointed storylines. There is no timeframe or setting. All we are given is a character.  Everything is done via instant messages. Scenes are chatted out between two or more players.  Since there is no setting and no plot, your character could be involved in a serious romance in Rivendell one day and off fighting aliens for some wacky AU hijinx the next. It's all up to you and your partner(s) in crime for that particular chat session

Can I play?

Sure. All you need to do to get started in this game is a) an IM program and screen name (most people tend to use AIM, which can be downloaded for free from the AOL website) and b) a character. How do you get a character? Well that's simple. Just email me and say who you want to play, a bit about that character, and give your IM contact info. You decide in which timeframe and reality your character is based. For example, Elrohir lives in Minas Tirith with all the comforts and technologies of the modern age. He spends a lot of time on the computer. Erestor, on the other hand, lives in Second Age Lindon and considers bottled ink to be very state-of-the-art indeed. Occasionally the two meet up and talk about stuff.  Most characters currently in the game form part of the modern-day Middle-earth group.

While a character might originate from a certain place or time, his scenes don't necessarily have to be set in the same. The only thing that will be affected by your character's background is the way he behaves in certain situations. And even this can change, if you want to try a completely AU story. Alternately, characters can be "from" an unspecified timeframe, fitting easily into the First, Second, Third, Fourth, etc. Age depending on how you want to play him at any given moment.

Before you apply to join, please keep in mind that this is a slashy sort of game. It is highly unlikely that an OFC character will be approved.

Storylines within or without the bounds of time

It is not neccessary to write storylines that correspond with the storylines of other players, unless you want to. Characters can be involved in multiple storylines at once. For example, if Gil-galad and Glorfindel are involved in an ongoing Last Alliance storyline, there's nothing stopping Glorfindel from also doing a story with Erestor in Rivendell while Gil-galad is off sitting in a hottub at the Mirkwood Hilton.

Characters can interact in canon or AU storylines, serious or goofy. It's all up to you. Hell, they can even interact in no storyline at all. If they just want to chat, that's perfectly fine. The purpose of the game is just to be in character and do stuff with other players. It's all for fun.

The beauty of a collection once-off and unrelated stories is that the game won't get bogged down or held up because one player is on vacation, too busy to play, or gone for good. Players can always start a new story with somebody else.
